Snakes on a Plane, Killer Sharks and Giant Octopuses

Strange-Globe, strange-place indeed. Every now and then Hollywood comes out with a truly hilarious project. In the good old days they were called B-movies. They usually consisted of young actors/actresses, bad scenery and effects and even worse plots. Some of the greatest B-movies were made during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Films like The Blob, The Thing and Escape from L.A were amazing B-movies with scope, depth and moments of comic genius, they just don’t seem to make them like they used too.

The Thing has got to be one of the greatest sci-fi B-movies of all time. It’s a nervous, harrowing alien mutating classic with some bad-ass Kurt Russell acting, jam packed with flame throwers in the middle of the Antarctic. There’s nothing like a great mutating alien action flick. Unfortunately for The Thing its opening was overshadowed by Spielberg’s fluffy teary-eyed classic E.T. Years later The Thing reached cult classic status after it was released on Video.

As I mentioned previously they don’t seem to make many classic B-movies anymore. The last one that I saw was Samuel. L. Jacksons improv classic Snakes on a Plane. I thought it was a masterpiece of cheesy action and poor acting, but it worked and it worked well. It was a chewing gum for the brain type of movie that was genuinely entertaining.

Take a look at the newest edition to the B-movie hall of fame. It’s heading to the cinema soon and it just looks completely awful. Game on!
